What is better a gainer or whey protein when it comes to gaining muscle mass?

I am taking the gnc weight gainer , saying it will not pack on a lot of fat. I am not sure if a decent whey supplement would do better. I weight train 4 to 5 days a week and gain muscle rather slowly.
