Does night shift work effect metabolism?

Metabolism

When I work nights,my body does`nt seem to respond as well to diet and excercise.

Night shift in itself shouldn't affect metabolism as long as you're getting enough rest. But when you don't get enough rest your metabolism slows down, you get a bigger appetite, and you store fat easier.

  1. It does. Night shifts and any thing that interrupts the normal circadian rhythms affect your sleep and your metabolism. We are designed to go to sleep at night when it is dark and to wake up when the sun comes up. Interrupting natural sleep patterns has been linked to weight gains of up to 10 pounds a month in research studies.
